After being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015 season, Abrahams United Silver Sands have bounced back to the top tier for 2018. Spending one year halfway down the standings, the Christ Church team fought their way back by picking up a playoff spot after finishing third in 2017.
Coach Adrian Watkins said that his team was happy to be back after the short sabbatical. “We are elated to be back in the Premier League once again. Our aim is not to win but to be competitive, at the same time staying up to grow from strength to strength as the years go by. We are truly looking forward to a successful season. We have a young team and a young programme in terms of management and we are all working together in one holistic approach.” he said.
Going on to credit their return to the young players in the side, Watkins said that the road back was a riveting one. “The journey was exciting! We had some young talent there that was really eager to play football and represent the community. So through it all, the drive came from the youth in the community pushing the older folks to come back out and give back in terms of management of the club. Truth is, it was really the youth who encouraged and brought Silver Sands back to the Premier League.”
