The Barbados Football Association has two assistant referees on this year’s official FIFA list and one provisional referee.
This after long-standing FIFA referee Gillian Martindale hung up her cleats at the end of the 2019 football season.
Referee’s Manager Mark “Bob” Forde made the disclosure during a recent interview.
“We have two international referees in Assistant Referees Kevon “Inches” Clarke and Tonia Deane. We also have another female Assistant Referee in Shannon Gibson, but she is provisionally approved by FIFA. When the fitness test was held she was not well, so until she passes the FIFA required fitness test she will not be appointed officially,” he explained.
Forde also thanked Martindale for her contribution over the years.
“Barbados will have as it presently stands two international referees and one referee who has been approved provisionally. Gillian is no longer a FIFA official. She has retired from refereeing and will be used in different roles going forward.
“I want to thank Gillian for her outstanding contribution to refereeing, her achievement of going to a FIFA Under-17 World Cup and her continued assistance in a new role as Referee’s Instructor and Referee’s Assessor,” he said.
Additionally, Forde said he was disappointed that they had not been able to field a male referee for the 2020 FIFA list.
