The men’s national Under-20 football team will be looking to walk all over the Cayman Islands today when they face each other in their final encounter of the Concacaf Under-20 Men’s Championship.
The young Tridents secured a win on Friday night when they walloped hosts Puerto Rico 4-0 at the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon.
Overseas-based players Thierry Gale and Nigel Griffith, along with Tyrique Belle and Niall Reid-Stephen were able to get the better of the Puerto Rican’s defense and register goals for the local side.
Gale struck first in the fifth minute, with help from Reid-Stephen. Five minutes later, Belle was able to capitalize on Puerto Rico’s mistake to double the lead for his side.
Just on the half-hour mark, Griffith was able to register the third goal from open play, before Reid-Stephen drove the nail home for the Puerto Ricans in the 68th minute.
With the Cayman Islands having defeated Bermuda 2-1 in their previous game, the Tridents will advance to the next round with a draw.
