The squad warming up ahead of Wednesday's game.
The Barbados Senior Women's team have begun their campaign into the Windward Islands Football Association's Women's Tournament on a high as they went straight to the top of the table in the competition's opening game on Wednesday evening. Playing at the Victoria Park stadium in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the local lasses opened their account with a two-one win over St. Lucia to take a seat at the head of the standings.
Star striker Felicia Jarvis put the Bajan girls on early as she beat the St. Lucia keeper in the 7th minute of the game. St. Lucia locked the score at one goal apiece going into the break as they were able to equalise in the 31st minute. However, Jarvis got the go-ahead and the game winner in the 85th minute as she comfortably converted a penalty.
Saying that he was pleased with the performance, BFA Technical Director Ahmed Mohamed also highlighted what he thought needed to be worked on for the next engagement. “We started pretty well in the first 15 minutes and we kept the pressure and also scored in that time period. After 25 minutes, we lost a little bit of the concentration and gave them a chance to give us a lot of pressure. They went on to score the one goal but generally, we played really well and we only need to work on our midfield because the connection between the midfield and the defence was a little bit far. We have some spaces there.” he said.
With the hosts St. Vincent up next, Mohamed said that he expected good things. “If we play the same way that we played and stay compact and be a bit more aggressive, we should win that game.
The home team lost one-nil to Grenada in the second game.
