Category: | 0 Replies

Crane and Equipment Ellerton Captain Shakille Belle led his team to victory with a hat-trick.

Porey Spring gave up a sure spot in the semifinals to play 'wait and watch' while the final games in the preliminary round in the Williams Equipment wrap up this week. After leading Zone 2 flawlessly after beating Weymouth Wales and Paradise, the top-tier debutantes met their match as Crane and Equipment Ellerton came from two goals down to hand down a 4-2 beating at Dover on Sunday night.

A double-strike in short order from Shamar Edwards had Porey Spring in control early on in the top-of-the-table clash. Edwards had put two past former national keeper Kerry Holder, who had his first outing of the season, in the 25th and 28th minutes. No pushovers, Ellerton pulled one back in the just before the break in the 45th minute from Damien Walcott beating Anthony Rollins for the first time this year.

In the second half, Porey Spring were given an invitation to the 'Shak show' as Ellerton captain Shakille Belle had three late goals to tip the scales in his team's favour. Belle began his journey to his hat-trick in the 78th minute with an equaliser before scoring back-to-back goals in the 90th and 92nd minutes to tie things up for Ellerton.

The other game at the venue say an at-home Paradise pulling out a 1-0 win over Weymouth Wales. After being held to 4-0 and 5-0 losses while playing a second-string team, the 2017 double-crown champions strengthened their side by playing the likes of Jamar Walters, Duwayne Peters and Lennie Regis.

The augmented Wales side paid dividends as only a single goal found its mark. With Wales switching out Jerome Blackman for the brand-new Terry Graham in his first outing after being transferred from Police Sports Club, Armando Lashley (16th) was the only player to beat him as he thwarted several other attempts at goal.

Ellerton have now booked their spot in the semis with a superior goal-difference of 6 as Porey Spring (4) and Paradise (0) are also on six points. The last games in the preliminary round see the action going to Friendship on Tuesday for Zone 3 and Market Hill on Thursday for Zone 1.
